The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs – Spa
The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs provides exclusive luxury accommodation and a par 72 championship golf course. The Lodge overlooks the golf course and has expansive views across the Pacific Ocean. The Spa is located next to a remnant stand of native forest dominated by Totara and Taraire.
Creating the Spa experience involved constructing a man-made rocky stream-bed out of local stone in the area between the forest and new spa treatment rooms. Large tree ferns, ground ferns, Nikau palms and other native shrubs were used to mimic the lush sub-tropical New Zealand rainforest. Outdoor treatment rooms feature unique Northland Schist for the paved patios and punga log fences with native climbing vines to create privacy. These areas are enjoyed by guests for massage while listening to the trickling stream and songs of native quail, pheasant and wood pigeon that inhabit the adjacent bush. The existing stand of remnant bush was enhanced with native revegetation plantings to provide a lush forest bush walk that links the Spa to the Lodge and Cottages.
